INTRO POST- Poem By Ememmaria Offiong

Poem By EmemMARIA Offiong
Nigeria, Oh my Nigeria! Land of my birth, my pride, my honour!
Once the Virgin Bride and toast of nations,
Ravished by the High and Mighty
Raped, ravaged, roasted and pilloried by Villains!
Looted, Plundered and pillaged to the dregs
By the dragoons of Society
Who has done these to thee, comely giant of Africa?
Turning thee to a mere "Ant" in the Comity Of Nations
Hitherto, you bestrode the world like a Colossus
Your Children making a mark in all services of life
Now, Giant Strides are rapidly eroded
Fading away like Early Morning stars
Echoes of lost Glory awaken Nostalgia in patriotic Hearts
As we watch the land of Peace and Prosperity,
Slowly and steadily decimated into a theatre of Slaughter
Fathers, Mothers, Children; everywhere Maimed, Displaced
Or outrightly killed, the family bond perpetually rent asunder
Neighbour-to-Neighbour No more found, seen or heard
As each one turns to Tribal  Sentiments
Dancing to the Macabre tune of Ethnic cleansing
Who beats these Drums?
How did it come about?
When will it end?
Who will tell our story to generations to come?
Is there any hope for our Land?
To leaders and Citizens, Alike, I turn
To the Elites and Masses, my appeal rings out
Let us sheathe these Swords,
Or better still, Convert them to tools of trade and Farm
And I tell Y'all Nigeria will surpass her former glory.
